About CIUSR

CIUSR is a registered 501c3 nonprofit based out of the Polk County Iowa Sheriff's Office. We are a team of professional volunteers that pay for training, equipment and deployments personally. Any support of funding recieived is tax deductable. Please contact us if you would like to donate to the team.

CIUSR is 35 years old!

CIUSR started as the Polk County Underwater Recover Unit in 1972. It was a joint venture between several law enforement agencies and fire departments in the Des Moines area. Over the years the unit expanded to include several agnecies outside Polk County. Swift water and ice rescue were also adpated into the training program. In 1986 the organization changed its name to Central Iowa Underwater Search and Rescue to better reflect its coverage are and mission purpose.
